Elevaters: Empowering Tomorrow’s Leaders
An important part of Elevate’s mission is giving back to our community. Elevate students are challenged to take the skills they have learned in the classroom and put them into action by mentoring elementary-age students. Our students were fitted with essential teaching, mentoring, and leadership skills to become Elevate mentors (called Elevaters) who delivered lessons of leadership and character to their elementary-age mentees at the Bronx Studio School for Writers and Artists (BSSWA).
This experience provides the Elevaters an opportunity to develop and use their listening, communication, facilitation, decision-making, leadership, mentoring, character, and life skills. As well as develop an understanding of different teaching strategies. Elevaters are empowered to be leaders in their own lives and agents of positive social change in the lives of others by building long-term life-changing relationships with adults, their peers, and younger students.
During the 2022-23 school year:
21 students completed 20 hours of training before they began mentoring.
Elevaters taught for 10 weeks, teaching their mentees about courage, integrity, communication, & responsibility.
Elevaters will be awarded a certificate for completing the Elevate training and showcasing an understanding of the teaching skills necessary to serve as a Little Elevate Mentor
We are incredibly proud of our Elevater’s tenacity, skills, and courage. Join us in celebrating this amazing achievement!
