Expanding Our Student’s Horizons Through Connection

We kickstarted an adventurous school year with a hike in Fort Tryon Park. Led by a NYSDEC licensed hiking guide, students had the opportunity to bond with their peers while experiencing the beauty of nature.

In September, Elevate New York students, staff, and BSSWA administration attended Global Citizens Festival in Central Park. This annual music festival empowers fans to take action toward ending extreme poverty. Fans are encouraged to become “Global Citizens” and be civic leaders by performing actions such as signing petitions, calling their political representatives, and participating in Global Citizen challenges. Not only did this year’s event include performances by Mariah Carey, Jonas Brothers, and Charlie Puth, but it also raised $2.4billion to end poverty around the world.

In October, our 10th grade students participated in BSSWA’s 10th grade Field Day at Pelham Bay Park. Field day gives Teacher-Mentors and students a chance to celebrate the school year, show class pride, and enjoy being active.

Childrens Bible Fellowship (CBF) continues to partner with Elevate New York to provide opportunities for our students to experience the beautiful outdoor landscape of Caramel, New York. We are grateful for CBF’s long-standing partnership and for inviting our students into their space. Connecting with peers while also connecting with nature is a unique and special experience for our students.

Elevate students visited THE POINT Community Development Corporation in the Bronx. THE POINT is dedicated to youth development and the cultural and economic revitalization of the Hunts Point section of the South Bronx. Students were invited to discover their creative sides by attending a photography workshop. They learned different shooting techniques, explored their comfort with camera equipment, and learned how to develop photos in a dark room.
