Spring 2022 program highlights

Every semester Elevate New York’s students participated in both in-school and out-of-school time programs and events designed to develop their leadership skills. Below are a few program highlights from the Spring 2022 semester.

College Prep

  • Elevate New York collaborated with Manhattan College for a campus tour for BBSWA Juniors. College visits are an exciting time for our students and our staff. When students experience college campuses attending college feels attainable and their confidence in their abilities begin to rise.

Workforce Development

  • Our friends at Microsoft shared their journey in the Navy and Marines and spoke about their transition into the workforce.

  • We are grateful for the opportunity to continue our partnership with Career Spring. We again collaborated to provide workforce development to the entire school of 9-12 grade students.

Adventure Learning

  • Elevate partnered with the Bronx Martial Arts Academy to host a Self Defense Seminar led by Rahul Bhowmick, Pharm D. Rahul, NASM certified personal trainer, led students in a 75-minute self-defense/ bully proof seminar. Students learned a combination of basic self-defense tactics from boxing, Muay Thai & Brazilian Jiu Jitsu via solo drills and partner work to fully comprehend the movements.

Healthy Living Series

Elevate hosted its first Healthy Living Series. The weeklong series covered all things healthy living with a focus on Elevate’s seven areas of a whole person:  physical, emotional, spiritual, vocational, financial, intellectual, and social. We were excited to collaborate with community-based organizations and professionals, including our very own board member, Dr. Victoria Rodriguez. We believe that a holistic approach is vital for a strong and healthy future for our youth.

Elevate was thrilled to partner with Job Corps as part of our Healthy Living Series. Job Corps is the largest nationwide residential career training program in the country and has been operating for more than 50 years. The program helps eligible young people ages 16 through 24 complete their high school education, trains them for meaningful careers, and assists them with obtaining employment. At Job Corps, students have access to room and board while they learn skills in specific training areas for up to three years.

Elevate had the opportunity to collaborate with Urban Health Plan. Urban Health Plan’s mission is to continuously improve the health of communities and the quality of life of the people we serve by providing affordable, comprehensive, quality, primary and specialty health care and by assuring the performance and advancement of innovative best practices.
